Michael Sherer
Michael ShererSergeant, Veteran, 2003 - 2011
I'm pledging my vote this year in honor of my brothers, Michael and Danny, both United States Marines who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our family came together through adoption, and my brothers are immigrants who found a home in this country and then chose to defend it. To me, they are living proof that our diversity is our strength. I dedicate my vote with gratitude to them and to all who have worn the uniform.

Eduardo M. RamosE-5, Veteran, 1969 - 1973
I'm so honored to pledge my vote this year with the greatest respect to my dad, Eddie Ramos, a Vietnam Veteran. My dad is one of the veterans from the famed Hero Street USA in tiny Silvis, Illinois - a 1 1/2 long block where more individuals served in the U.S. military than any other street in America of comparable size. My dad served as a truck mechanic, and he was super active in the veterans world after his Active Duty service. He was also politically active, and very patriotic!

My son-in-law Abdullah Nurmohamed completed training in Aircrew operations, Swimmer Rescue, and the H-60A. He completed Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape School followed by Fleet Replacement Squadron training for the MH-60S Seahawk helicopter. Nurm participated in fleet operations in one of the premier helicopter squadrons. He was also part of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 4 where he provided support for fleet missions in the Pacific. It is a privilege to vote in honor of his service.

Grandpa, I will always remember that you liked to tell fibs and say you were a Navy SEAL, but we found out that simply wasn't true. Instead as a UCT member, I think that's pretty darn important. You served in WWII on the ship the USS Casa Grande in the South Pacific and wore a Casa Grande hat proudly until the day you left us. I'm super proud to call you my Grandpa. I vote in your honor.

Grandpa, you've shared many memories of your time in both the Army and Navy and of the difficulties you endured while stationed in Greenland during WWII. I always love to hear your stories. Thank you for your service. I vote in your honor.

David Evans
David E EvansSergeant, Veteran, 1969 - 1970
“War,” Dave Evans said, “is the obscene failure of people’s inability to communicate.” In mid-summer 1970, he was deployed to Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. By the end of the year, he became a bilateral, transtibial amputee - he was 18 years old. He could have returned home and worked in the West Virginia coal mines, but instead, he went to NYU, became a world-renowned prosthetist, and dedicated his life to ending war and treating its victims.

I will certainly be voting to honor my husband, who chose to voluntarily enlist and serve in Vietnam. He was enrolled in college but did not seek a deferment. He was an only child and could have been deferred for that reason. But he chose to serve our country at risk to himself. He is now a disabled veteran who still votes in every election and honors his fellow veterans.

Samuel Wright
Samuel F. WrightCaptain, JAGC, Retired, 1973 - 2007

Commissioned an Ensign in 1973 during law school, Capt. Wright served in the Navy and Navy Reserve until retiring in 2007, including active duty in the JAG Claims Division and 14 later tours. In 1976, defending a Congressman's narrow election loss, he discovered thousands of uncounted APO/FPO ballots from service members overseas. That moment sparked a lifelong mission. I am grateful for his 20 years advising U.S. Vote Foundation and Overseas Vote to ensure military voices are heard.
